(Riverside County, CA) September 23, 2025 – Attorney Eric L. Schattl of Wade Litigation, secured victory Thursday in the Riverside County Superior Court, where the Honorable Dorothy McLaughlin gave the firm a defense verdict in response to a Contempt charge brought by the City of Jurupa Valley against two property owners who were the firm’s clients. The City had sought to impose penalties for alleged violations of a September 2023 permanent injunction related to code compliance.
However, Attorney Eric L. Schattl, assisted by trusted paralegal Moriah Condos, mounted a persuasive defense, which demonstrated that his clients’ partial noncompliance was not the result of their willful disregard, but instead, the product of rather significant financial obstacles which included the clients having been previously defrauded by an architect (which is a complete defense to a contempt charge).
The defense emphasized the clients’ consistent good-faith efforts to comply, even while navigating the City’s bureaucratic red tape. The Court’s ruling spared the clients from approximately $30,000 in potential attorneys’ fees and fines, lifting a major financial burden. With this result, the clients are now able to focus their resources on bringing the property into full compliance and ultimately moving forward with selling the property and purchasing one more suitable for their needs.
When asked about the outcome, Schattl said, “I’m gratified to achieve such a result, as it represents both fairness under the law and a meaningful step forward for my clients”.
